Peer-e-Kamil (Chapter 1)
The Meeting
Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. The sun was setting behind the mountains, casting a long shadow over the valley. Salar stood there, watching the crimson sky, thinking about the choices he had made. It was a quiet evening, the kind that forces you to listen to your own thoughts.
"Why are you here?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. She stood a few feet away, her silhouette merging with the darkening horizon.
He turned around, a faint smile playing on his lips. "To find what I lost," he replied calmly, though his heart raced.
The journey had been long and arduous. Every step felt like a burden, yet he kept moving. It wasn't about the destination anymore; it was about the redemption. He remembered the days when he had everything, yet felt empty inside. Now, with nothing but the clothes on his back, he felt a strange sense of purpose.
She handed him the letter. "This belongs to you."
He took it, his hands trembling slightly. The paper was old, the ink faded, but the words were etched in his memory forever. He didn't need to read it to know what it said. It was a reminder of a promise broken, and a life left behind.
"I never wanted this," he whispered, looking at the crumbled paper. "I never wanted any of this."
"But you chose it," she reminded him gently. "We are the sum of our choices, Salar. You chose to leave. And now, you have chosen to return."
The wind picked up, rustling the leaves of the ancient trees surrounding them. It felt like nature was listening to their conversation. He looked at her, really looked at her, for the first time in years. Time had been kind to her, but he could see the sadness in her eyes—a reflection of his own pain.
"Is it too late?" he asked, the question hanging in the air between them.
She smiled, a sad, knowing smile. "It's never too late to seek forgiveness, but it might be too late to forget."
